International Activities

1) Overseas Inspection and Study Tour

JVIA's activities for international exchange have a long history. Its first inspection and study tour in overseas business was held in 1975, 10 years before the inauguration of JVIA. These tours have effectively contributed to the development of the vacuum industry. There has been a variety of inspection and study tours, which have included participation in academic meetings on vacuum technology held in overseas countries, tours in exhibitions held together with meetings, visits to overseas vacuum equipment manufacturers, etc. Visits have taken place all over the world, including the United States of America, Europe, Southeast Asia (NICS), Australia, Chinese Taipei, South Korea, Mainland China, and others.
The missions given to these overseas inspection and study tour groups were not only to study overseas businesses, but also to visit overseas vacuum-related organizations in order to exchange the most recent information. One of the fruitful outcomes of these visits was the agreement on International Statistics Exchange for Vacuum Equipment signed in December, 2001.
The 27th overseas inspection and study tour took place last year. In addition to these tours, the tour groups are also sent to Semicon West (in San Francisco, USA) every year, and last year's visit was the 16th visit since the inauguration of JVIA.

2) International Exchange Conference

At the International Vacuum Exhibition, the representatives of the overseas vacuum-related organizations and management level personnel are invited every year to present lectures. Exchange conferences with them are also held. Last year, representatives of the Korea Vacuum Research Association, the Taiwan Vacuum Society, and the German Machinery and Plant Manufacturers Association, Vacuum Equipment Division, were invited, and information about vacuum equipment industries in four countries (Japan, South Korea, Chinese Taipei, and Germany) was exchanged. The international exchange conferences of the overseas vacuum-related organizations were held from 1995 to 2001 with the assistance of the JETRO. In 2001 the "VACUUM 2001" the International Technology Exchange Conference of the International Vacuum Exhibition was held on September 12 and about 140 people participated.

3) Exchange with Overseas Vacuum-related Organizations

The basis of exchange activities with overseas vacuum-related organizations has already been made through the inspection and study tours of overseas businesses, international exchange conferences, etc., and in September 2001, the stage was reached in which the mutual exchange agreement with KOVRA (Korea Vacuum Research Association) was signed. We made a return visit to KOVRA in February 2002, to deepen our relationship with them.
We now urgently require to promote the exchange with TVS (Taiwan Vacuum Society) and CVIA (China General Machinery Vacuum Industry Association).
